My weight loss journey
I started my weight loss journey 2 or 3 years ago. It was one of my goals at my goal planning meeting (person centered plan, or PATH). After talking to my mom and my support worker I started watching what I was eating, swimming and going to the local gym. It didn’t start off easy. I had a hard time at first with staying away from junk food.
Then I looked into getting a personal trainer. I went into the gym and I asked the receptionist if there were any personal trainers and how much it cost. I asked if there were any women trainers around my age. When I first went to the gym I felt very shy.
My trainer and I are now good friends. I saw her every week for about 5 months. Training gave me the confidence to go to the gym on my own. I also started running. Going to the gym has improved my confidence and has made me feel better about myself.
I started this journey because I want to take horseback riding lessons. I love horses and I feel happy when I’m around them. Riding will improve my posture because you have to have a good posture when you ride horses. But in order to take lessons at the Victoria Riding Club for the Disabled you have to weigh under a certain amount.
Since I’ve started my journey, I’ve lost 16 pounds and I still have more to lose. It hasn’t always been easy but I’m starting to feel better about myself and it has improved my swimming.
I am motivated because I want to ride horses, feel better about myself and wear cute dresses or skirts.
I love myself and I love how I can walk to the gym and see a friend and I miss it when I am not there. I feel out of my routine when I don’t go.
I don’t miss junk food anymore. I have no interest in it. When I drink a diet coke now I actually don’t enjoy it, it tastes horrible. The same with Starbucks drinks, I don’t enjoy them as much as I use to.
What favorite things do you do to keep fit and stay healthy?
