Who is the BC Self Advocacy Foundation?

File 482The BC Self Advocacy Foundation was formed in 1985. Our sole purpose is to assist people with developmental disabilities to become full, participating citizens in their own communities.

We believe that people with disabilities have the right to control their own lives and make their own decisions. We also believe families, friends and advisors have a role in supporting self advocacy.

Guided by our Board of Directors, the BC Self Advocacy Foundation provides self advocates, their families, and advocacy groups with the skills and knowledge to become community leaders.

We provide:

  • community grants promoting self advocacy skills and community inclusion for self advocates across British Columbia
  • community workshops, and
  • plain language information on advocating for your rights

Our work is supported through provincial government grants, fundraising efforts and donations from supporters like you.
